"A safe and respectful place to share your thoughts with no judgement". T. Croom, MS, GCDF
when i first thought of phycology i thought it was what you do when you sit down and talk with a psychiatrist. i always though it was just sitting down and talking about how you feel, what you think, and what it going on in your life. i didn't realize it was a whole field of science. so far my favorite part of phycology is learning the biology and genetics behind who we are as people, and what factors within cause us to make the decisions we do. of all the perspectives, the biological perspective if the most interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteThe topics I find most interesting are about how to treat anxiety and depression. Since I want to be an OB GYN, I know that there are a lot of women who struggle with postpartum depression and I hope to be able to learn more about it in this class. I know it can often go undiagnosed but I find that it is very important to be able to know the signs and symptoms so that I can recognize and treat my patients better. As a hopeful future physician I want to be able to treat the patient as a whole, not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. So if I can be able to better recognize signs of postpartum depression, I can better be able to serve my future patients by getting them the treatment they need.
ReplyDeleteThe topics I like the most is how the brain works and connects to other parts of bodily parts and functions. How the brain and spine works hand in hand. I mean its honestly. God created each of us so different, so VERY SIMILAR in many ways.
ReplyDeleteI knew that there were many techniques used to help a person but its amazing that each technique is named and credited. I also am a firm believer that remedies can we used instead of medication and medications can always become of something completely natural. If the resources we needed are already here than nothing should have to be made to substitute those resources with the exception of the modern life hacks. The electrotherapy, placebos, and MRI machines etc are very effective but the most effective treatments are those that have been discovered by therapist already. Learning of how the brain functions and memory were the most interesting and protecting them is extremely important.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find most interesting in the field of Psychology is the concept of cognition and how the mind adapts to taking damage, how our development from birth depends what we see and what we perceive our reality to be and how even when the brain is irreversably damaged it can adapt to and create new functions along with the ones that still exist to accomodate for what was lost.

ReplyDeleteAt first I thought psychology was just sitting with someone and talking about the things that bother and they find a way for you to control. But after taking the course, I learn that there is more to it than just finding a way for a person to cope with their mental issues. I really enjoy every part about psychology, it's really no favorite part because I favor the entire thing. Understanding that we are unique individuals and that we have our own unique ways. Understanding the development of life from homo sapiens stage to modern society and how we are handling the world in a different view. Learning the parts of the brain, understanding the development of social interaction, and knowing that there is positive psychology. Obtaining knowledge that has always been interesting to be and being able to study it gives me a different outlook on the world and the study of psychology.
ReplyDeleteWhen I initially started studying psychology I thought I wanted to be a school psychologist. I had done some research and was prepared to follow that path, until I actually started my first psychology class. I fell in love with humanistic psychology and Rogerian therapy. That's where I want to focus in my long term career goals.
