Are school's under attack?

Why are there so many school shootings? Is there a way to stop them? Who's responsible?

  1. As much as it saddens me, yes, I believe our schools are under attack. Every morning I send my daughter to school I am always worried about her. It's hard to even think about because it is our new normal now in this world.

  2. I believe there are so many school shootings, because we, as a society, are failing our students. We focus on violence and aggression, and we do not provide the mental health support that many students need. Students feel ashamed asking for help, and schools do not have the resources to provide adequate mental health treatment. I think that we are all responsible for the school shootings. Guns are too accessible in our society, and people are not adequately trained in gun safety. Too many people lash out with violence because they do not know how to handle their emotions.

  3. The amount of school shooting is a sign of where we have gotten as a society. Everyone wants to blame someone else. Everyone wants to be lenient (because they feel that somehow makes them a good person) as well as give excuses. No one takes responsibility for their actions or inactions. As a nation this will continue to be an issue because far too many want to dig in their heels and hide behind the 2nd amendment when it comes to serious talk about gun control and fire are regulation. These steps are not akin to the government is take our guns. It simply means that certain weapons will not be easily acquired or readily available. We are too capitalistic and as long as certain classes and individuals have the majority of the money they can buy support for their beliefs. In the words of Joey Swoll "we need to do better, we need to be better".

  4. The prevalence of school shootings in America (because America is the only country where this is so prevalent) is a symptom of a systematic failure to provide mental health services and maintain accountability for gun owners and sellers. Mental health care should be more accessible to students and they should be able to access it without going through barriers like insurance or parental approval. Guns should always have a documented chain of custody and there should be accountability when guns end up in the hands of someone who should not have one. The use of cars is heavily regulated and tracked, guns should be exactly the same.
